The big music winners at filmfare awards 2007
Every Indian is aware about the glory that a Filmfare trophy fetches its recipients, and no one knows the excitement better than the Indian Film Industry. The awards, which have been in the running for more than 53 years, long before national awards (and the current crop of awards which happen each month like a tv serial), are easily the most sought after ones, and have time and again been referred to as the Indian Oscars. Here’s looking at the big winners from the music industry at this years show:
The definition of Bollywood music could never be complete without his name being mentioned – A.R.Rahman. the music maestro won the Best Music Filmfare Award for last years most compelling score Rang De Basanti. It was his 18th Filmfare trophy, and a double honour in his own words was getting the chance to perform at the show this year!
We mentioned in our previous post that Salim and Sulaiman were doing the music for one of the most awaited biggies due this year, YRF’s Aaja Nachle. You should know that this duo won the Best Background Score Filmfare, for a movie that’s made its way to IIM syllabus – Krrish. They were the ones who gave Bhoot its haunting eerie music and the razor sharp and fast speed action packed sounds to Dhoom. And this year they were nominated for Dhoom:2 as well. But Salim Merchant insists he was glad they got it for Krrish because they had recorded it in the wonderful city of Prague and cherishes the experience he had with the Prague Philarmonic Orchestra. Sulaiman claims that the experience was exciting coz even as Batman and Superman had a lot of references to fall back on in terms of comics and books, these guys were creating India’s first superhero. Well, the winners have a third YRF movie at hand: Jugal Hansraj’s animated directorial debut Roadside Romeo, which is the love story of, hold your breath, a dog! They will also be working on Nagesh Kukunoor’s Bombay To Bangkok.
She had three nominations this year, but it was clear that she was gonna win the Filmfare Best Female Playback award for what else but ‘beedi jalaile’ from Omkara. That’s another thing when Gulzar, the man behind the smoking hot lyrics of this song says to Times Of India in an interview, that he writes crap these days. Yes! We are talking about Sunidhi Chauhan, whose association with the Filmfare Awards goes back to 2000 when she won the prestigious R D Burman award for fresh talent. She says that she doesn’t mind missing on the awards in between, coz that makes her work hard. Sure! We can see that, with many of her hits already burning the chartbusters across the globe.
And to give Sunidhi company in the Best Male Playback category, we have a song which sent both the male and female audiences in a tizzy across the nation, when everyone crooned to Jatin-Lalit’s composition ‘chaand sifarish’ from Fanaa. The song fetched Shaan and Kailash Kher their first Filmfare, and to think of it, Shaan had to audition for this song to be filmed on his favourite actor! The song was an instant hit with everyone from the rickshawallah as well as the call centre managers. Even though Kailash sung only the ‘subhan allah’ part, you couldn’t imagine the song without his powerhouse voice, could you? With sound recordist Daman Sood’s skills, the song was done perfectly; though Kailash did imagine that someone was playing a prank at him for having won the trophy, while he was performing in Chandigarh.
So who is the new kid on the block? It is Naresh Iyer this year who has bagged the cobeted R D Burman Award for Fresh Talent. With a category which has never had any nominations, he was totally clueless. This guys talent was aptly tapped by Rahman in RDB, the person who was the first one to get this award when it was added to the list of Fimfare Awards. Host SRK had jokingly asked the shocked winner on stage if he was old enough to go out without his parents!
So last but not the least. Same song, different award. ‘Chaand sifarish’ from Fanaa bagged Prasoon Joshi the Filmfare trophy for what else but Best Lyrics. The man was nominated along biggies like Javed Akhtar and Gulzar. So to sum it all up, this is one big deal! For its every lover’s fantasy to be ‘fanaa’ in the love of his beloved, and the song aptly caught the sentiments ranging from ‘ada’, ‘gaali’, ‘sifarish’, ‘sharm-o-hayaa’, ‘iraade’, all stirred up with in a song which simmered in the fun loving sensuality of a guy’s feelings.
