Top Bollywood Musical Hits 2007
With less than 5 months left this year, the whole of Indian Film Industry is looking forward to the biggest releases this year due in the latter half. But the months gone by have had their fair share of musical success. Here is a flashback to the big music that had bollywood dancing to its tunes till now:
Guru - A.R.Rahman’s magic created some foot tapping numbers in this Mani Ratnam flick, with some spl-Ash-ing in ‘barso re’, and Mallika’s sexy moves in ‘mayya mayya’, and even the ’shauq hai’ from Guru’s background score remains finely etched in the memories of public.
Salaam-E-Ishq - Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music was this biggie’s leading saviour when the movie shockingly crashed at the BO. ‘Saiyya re’, ’salaam-e-ishq’ and ‘tenu leke’ managed to rock the charts till quite a while before the movie sank without a trace.
Honeymoon Travels PVT. LTD. can be accredited the song which sent the whole nation on to the dance floor. ‘Sajnaji vaari vaari’ was Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani’s biggest gift to this music crazy country, and Javed Akhtar’s lyrics made sure that some other songs, not used for promos, were quite a success too.
Cheeni Kum - Ilaiyaraaja was at the helm of this sugarless romance, but his music surely left a sweet taste in your memory. ‘Cheeni kum hai’with Tabu’s glances, ‘Jaane do na’ with Big B’s stubborn attitude or the ’saxophone melody’ which was the background of London’s incessant rains, every song was perfect, without going overboard and Shreya Ghoshal added another feather in her (overloaded) cap.
Namaste London - Talking of caps, how can we forget the lucky cap of lucky chap Himesh Reshamiyya? And with each song of Namaste London, his music stirred each romantic soul with ‘viraniya’, ‘rafta rafta’, ‘chakna chakna’ and the to top it all ‘yahi hota pyaar’. Truly, the Akshay-Katrina-Himesh trio (previously seen in Humko Deewana Kar Gaye) is a rocking band altogether.
Shakalaka Boom Boom - Himesh had another success this year, though not as big as Namaste London. Shakalaka Boom Boom had the music director cum singer (and now actor) raking up the charts with ’shakalaka boom boom’, ‘thare vaaste’, and ‘rukhsat’.
Apne - Once again, Himesh was behind the music of this casting coup movie, featuring all three Deols together for the first time. ‘Dekhun tujhe to pyaar aaye’ remains one of the best tracks of not just this album, but this year as well. ‘Mehfooz’ too was a good one, as was ‘apne’ and ‘tere sang’ but the crown surely went to ‘dekhun tujhe’.
Anwar - ‘Aankhein teri, itni haseen’. Music director Pankaj Awasthi must have known for sure that this would be a winner from the word go. The song refuses to go away from the countdowns, even though its been nearly 8 months since the music of this movie released. Sayid Qadri’s lyrics were pure as anything. Another track from the movie remains finely etched in the memory - ‘tose naina laage’ aka ‘jaaveda zindagi’. and to praise it, we are at a loss of words.
Awarapan - When Emran Hashmi stars in a movie, the music has got be rocking. And this was affirmed once again when music director Pritam Chakraborty’s tunes hit the charts. ‘To phir aao’ remains the best track of the album and possibly the only tune to remember from this movie which became a surprise hit.
The Train - Music director Mithoon was able to get some seriosuly amazing music in this album. ‘Wo ajnabee‘ provided the much needed zing to the dance floor and the leader of them all was the song ‘mausam’, more popular as ‘zindagi ne zindagi bhar’. The song came with a much needed healing touch to broken hearts across the nation.
Ta Ra Rum Pum - YRF’s biggie might have been an average hit at BO, but the ’simple story simpky told’ was accompanied by quite some hummable tunes, which incidently were a treat to watch in the movie. ‘Ta ra rum pum’, was a hit with the kiddos, ‘hey shona’ went the guys to their gals ans ’saiyaan’ showed the penniless that there was light at the end of the tunnel. Vishal-Shekhar’s music might have been panned by the critics, but the music as well as the movie remains one of the best out of YRF’s stable. Hats off to the camp which might have tasted far more success with this movie which some critics stupidly labelled as a sequel to Hum Tum!
Shootout At Lokhandwala - Anand Raj Anand struck it right with ‘ae ganpat’ in one of the biggest BO hits this year. The songs were all finely tuned with the plot, and the lyrics by Dev Kohli, Palash Sen and others made sure that the songs didn’t seem to go away from the movie’s theme.
Some other albums like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Risk too tasted some success but we’ll feature them in the top bollywood songs of 2007 article, that will make it to this blog soon. So watch out, and stay tuned! :)
