Akshay Kumar ( real name Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia) was born to a middle class Punjabi family in Amritsar (Punjab). His father was in the government service. He did his schooling at Don Bosco School and graduation from Khalsa College. He worked as a Chef in Bangkok and then as a matial arts teacher in India. One of his student suggested him to be a model and he decided to give it a try after which there was no stopping for him.

He started his acting career with the film titled Saugandh in 1991. In the start of his career, he was primarily considered as the action hero of Bollywood. Similar to fellow actor Govinda, who started No. 1 series he also did Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and Sabse Bada Khiladi. His first major hit was infact the thriller, Khiladi. He won his first Filmfare Award suprisingly under the Best Villain category, for his power packed performance in Ajnabee. Priyadarshan’s Hera Pheri showcased his ability at doing comedy. And after that he became the no. 1 contendor of performing comic hero in bollywood films. He was romantically linked with several of his co-actresses like Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty etc but he finally married former bollywood actress Twinkle Khanna. Akshay is a one man industry who has held his own in spite of the Khans.
