Yesteryear superhit film Aradhana, directed by Shakti Samanta, was released on 27 September 1969. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles. Farida Jalal and Sujit Kumar also played important roles in the film. The movie was the remake of the Hollywood film To Each His Own. It is interesting to note that Saif Ali Khan in the film Parineeta rides on the same train his mother Sharmila rides on in Aradhana.

The movie starts with the two individuals, Arun ( Rajesh Khanna ) and Vandana ( Sharmila Tagore ). Arun is a airforce officer who falls in love with Vandana after seeing her for the first time in a mini train. Arun expresses his love to her and she also accepts it heartly. They starts spending more and more time with each other. And during one of such cosy and loose moment they crosses all the boundaries marked by the society.

Destiny plays it’s part and Arun dies in an air crash. He leaves behind helpless, heartbroken and pregnant Vandana. Arun’s family refuses to accept Vanadan as their dauhter-in-law. Vandana finally decides to give his new born baby, Suraj to a childless couple. She becomes his nanny instead of mother. But in the end after a lot of twists and turns, Suraj learns about his real mother and accepts her.
