Govinda and Karishma Kapoor starrer Hero No. 1, directed by David Dhawan, was released on 21 February 1997. The films also starred Kadar Khan and Paresh Ra wal in important roles. The music of the movie was given by the famous duo Anand-Milind. The film was a fantastic comedy caper with the excellent comic timing of Govinda. The music of the film was also proved out to be a big hit of that time.

The film starts with Meena ( Karishma Kapoor ) who is a sweetheart of her grandfather, Seth Dinanath ( Paresh Rawal ). Meena takes Dinanath’s permission to travel Europe with her aunt Shannu ( Himani Shivpuri ). On the other hand, Rajesh Malhotra ( Govinda ), who is the son of a businessman Dhanraj Malhotra ( Kadar Khan ) is not happy with his dad’s strictness and hence escapes from his home. During their trip in Europe, Rajesh and Meena falls in love with each other. Dhanraj discovers his son in Europe and promises the he will not be the same dad as before. He also promises to talk Seth Dinanath for Rajesh-Meena’s marraige. But destiny plays it’s role and Dhanraj accidently splashes sludge on Dinanath. Both end up quarreling. Dinanath straightaway refuses to Dhanraj’s proposal of his son’s marriage. Now Rajesh enters in Dinanath’s house in the form of a servant and work at Dinanath’s home. With in a short span of time Raju impresses Dinanath with his acts. After a lot of twists and turns Rajesh and Meena get married in the end.
