Famous bollywood singer Mahendra Kapoor was born on January 9, 1934 in Amritsar, India. He later moved to Mumbai in order to start his career as a playback singer in bollywood industry. He was highly inspired by veteran late Mohammed Rafi. Mahendra Kapoor also won the All India Singing Competition. He sang for many films but most if his hit songs were from the B. R. Chopra’s films.

He sang many beautiful songs for the movies like Waqt, Hamraaz etc. Veteran bollywood actor Manoj Kumar or popularly known as Bharat Kumar sis many films with Mahendra Kapoor in the form of Upkaar, Purab Aur Paschim etc. In the year 1968, he won the National Film Best Male Playback Singer Award for ‘ Mere desh ki dharti sona ugle ugle heere moti’ song in the film Upkaar. He was also awarded the Padmashri Award by the Government of India.
