Tanuja Chandra’s Sangharsh was released on September 3, 1999. The movie starred Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta in lead roles. Ashutosh Rana Played the pshyco killer in the film. The music of the movie was given by Jatin-Lalit. The movie was inspired by The Silence of the Lambs. Preity Zinta gave her best performance ever in the film. Ashutosh Rana won Filmfare Best Villain Award for his performance in the film.

The moviue starts with a series of kidnapping and murders of children. The case is handed over to CBI officer Reet Oberoi ( Preity Zinta ). She managed to found the person behind the whole scene, Lajja Shankar Pandey ( Ashutosh Rana), who wants to gain immortality by sacrificing children. But for catching Pandey, Reet needs help from a prisoner, Professor Aman Varma ( Akshay Kumar ). Professor after initial refusal agrees to help Reet in finding Lajja Shankar Pandey. But in the process they both fall in love with each other. Finally Aman and Reet eventually save the child by killing Pandey but in the process Aman also dies.
