Gorgeous Amrita Rao was born on June 17, 1981 in Mumbai, India. She is a degree holder in psychology from Sophia College. She started her career as a model and made her acting debut with Arya Babbar in the movie Ab Ke Baras. The film even failed to mark its presence at box office. Then Amrita starred in the superhit flick Ishq-Vishk opposite Shahid Kapoor. The film proved out to be a huge box office success. She won the IIFA award for Best Female Debut of 2004.

After that she was seen in films like Masti and Shahrukh Khan starrer Main Hoon Na. Though she was not the lead actress of Main Hoon Na but her performance was remarkable in it. She was then seen in many films such as Deewaar, Shikar etc. but none of the film did well at box office.

But after playing the sweet and beautiful girl in Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivah, she established herself as one of the most promising actresses of bollywood. She was once again seen opposite Shahid kapoor in the film. Her performance in the film earned her a Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award. however, her last release My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves failed to do well at the box office.
