Bollywood crime drama, Achanak, directed by Gulzar and written by Khwaja Ahmed Abbas was released in the year 1973. The movie starred Vinod Khanna and Lily Chakravarty in lead roles while Om Shivpuri, Farida Jalal, Inderjeet, Vijay Sharma, Iftekhar, Kamaldeep, Asrani and Ravi Raaj also played significant characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was composed by the well known veteran music director Vasant Desai while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar etc.

The movie starts with a criminal who is fighting for his life in the hospital. Doctor are sure that he will not be able to survive any more but they all get shocked to see the will power of that criminal. Finally the guy manage to win the fight against death and survives. He is later recognized as an army man named Major Ranjeet Khanna ( Vinod Khanna ). The movie then goes in flashback where Ranjeet has just returned home as a war hero. But he get shocked to see the changed behaviour of his wife, Pushpa ( Lily Chakraborthy ).

He tries to reveal about the secret behind the changed as well as the strange behaviour of his wife. He get shocked to learn that his wife is having an extramarital affair with someone. He get enraged with this and decides to kill his wife and her lover after catching them red handed. He uses all the tricks and actions he was once taught in the army to defeat the enemy. He ends up killing his wife and now is on a run from police. What to happen next?
