The family drama Amba was released on August 10, 1990 under the banner of Emkay Films. The movie was directed and produced by Mohan Kumar. The key roles in the movie were played by Anil Kapoor, Kiran Juneja, Meenakshi Seshadri and Shabana Azmi while the roles of Satish Shah, Dulari, Jay Mathur and Kanwaljeet Singh were also important. Music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Mohammad Aziz, Anuradha Paudwal, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Suresh Wadkar, Manhar Udhas and Kishore Kumar.

The family drama Amba was a social movie that revolves around Prabha Singh ( Kiran Juneja ) who lives a good life with her widowed dad, Thakur Jasbir Singh ( Sudhir Pandey ) and brother Kunwar Ranvir ( Rajan Sippy ). The beautiful lady got a marriage proposal from equally wealthy Thakur Shamsher Singh ( Mangal Dhillon ) but she rejects it and gets married to Rajendra Singh ( Kanwaljit Singh ). She marries him and re-locates with him and his widowed mother Amba Bhanupratap Singh ( Shabana Azmi ) and wayward brother Suraj ( Anil Kapoor ).

Prabha gets relocated with him and also gives birth to a son named Rajat Singh (    Master Rajat Dubey ). Rajendra returns home drunk from local courtesan Munnibai and sexually molests and then kills Geeta who is their servant. Amba returns home after watching the Ram Leela and was shocked to see the incident. She gets him arrested and thus was found guilty by the court which orders him to be hanged. Prabha also pledges to take the revenge.
