The social and offbeat film Ankahee was released in the year of 1985. The movie was directed by Amol Palekar while it was produced by Jayant D and Amol Palekar. The key roles in the movie were enacted by Amol Palekar, Devika Mukherjee, Deepti Naval and Vinod Mehra while the supporting roles were played by Shreeram Lagoo, Dina Pathak and Anil Chatterjee. The music of the film was directed by Jaidev while the songs were sung by Asha Bhosle and Bhimsen Joshi.

The movie Ankahee which was a social and offbeat film revolved mostly around a man named Jyotibhaskar Pandit Satyanarayan Chaturvedi who is a renowned Indian Astrologer. The interesting point in the story is that being an astrologer he wishes a doctor ( Vinod Mehra ) Best of Luck for the operation he is going to perform on a lady but at the same point also tells him that his patient is going to die. The doctor was surprised to know this but had no option but to go and perform the operation.

As predicted by the astrologer, the patient dies and the doctor was left with no option but to humbly request the astrologer. The astrologer lives with his wife, Devki, and an only son, Nandu ( Amol Palekar ). Nandu is a young guy of marriageable age and was ordered to marry a young girl named Indu Agnihotri. However he was in deep love with another girl named Sushma Chatopadhya and was determined to marry her. His father predicted that he will marry two women one of whom will die.
