Bollywood action thriller, Ashaant, directed by Keshu Ramsay and written by Anand Vardhan was released in the year 1993. The movie starred Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Bhave in lead roles while Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Vishnuvardhan, Mamta Kulkarni, Sharat Saxena, Puneet Issar and Pankaj Dheer also played important characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was composed by the well knwon music director duo Jatin Lalit while the songs were rendered by Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Abhijeet, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Alka Yagnik.

The movie starts with young and energetic, Vijay ( Akshay Kumar ), who is a police inspector by profession. Vijay is in love with a beautiful girl named Sonali ( Mamta Kulkarni ) and is planning to get married with her soon. But his life gets upturned when he is assigned the case of his own friend, Vishnu ( Vishnuvardhan ), who is now a notorious gangster. Vishnu actually works for the underworld don, ( Sadashiv Amrapurkar ). Vishnu is in love with a girl named Anita ( Ashwini Bhave ).

Vijay meets with Vishnu and ask him to get rid of his criminal life. But vishnu refuse to listen his plea as it is now almost impossible for him to leave this crime path. He tells Vijay that he is now used to it and doesn’t even want to change his life. Vijay has now no other option than to kill his close friend, Vishnu. But will it be that easy for Vijay to kill his best friend?
