The family drama Bahu Ki Awaaz was released in the year of 1985. The movie was directed by K Shashilal Nair and produced by B S Grover. The significant roles in the movie were enacted by Rakesh Roshan, Om Puri, Supriya Pathak and Naseruddin Shah while Swaroop Sampat, Vikas Anand, Bharat Bhushan, Amrit Dhillon, Aruna Irani and Pinchoo Kapoor were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Shabbir Kumar, Suresh Wadkar and Anuradha Paudwal.

The movie Bahu Ki Awaaz was a family flick that revolved mostly round a woman named Kavita ( Swaroop Sampat ). Kavita lived a poor lifestyle with her widowed father Rai Bahadur ( Bharat Bhushan ) and brother ( Amrit Dhillon ) in a small house. They were once a wealthy and happy family but due to time they are now a heavily mortgaged family. She also loved a man named Advocate Sunil ( Naseeruddin Shah ) but this was not liked by her father as he was an alcoholic and unsuccessful man.

The family of Kavita discusses her situation with Murli who arranges a matrimonial alliance with the Srivastav family. The Srivastav family consists of Mr. Srivastav ( B.L. Chopra ), his wife Shobha ( Sulabha Deshpande ), his widower and Advocate son Jaswant ( Om Puri ), daughter Binny ( Baby Suchita ) and another son Vimal ( Rakesh Roshan ) who is studying Medicine and is in love with wealthy girl named Madhu ( Supriya Pathak ).
