Bollywood romantic comedy action drama, Chaahat, directed by Mahesh Bhatt and written by Akash Khurana was released on June 6, 1996. The movie starred Shahrukh Khan and Pooja Bhatt in lead roles while Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Ramya Krishnan, Nilofer, Pankaj berry, Mushtaq Khan, Razak Khan, Avtar Gill and Anant Jog also played important characters in the film. The hit romantic music of the movie was directed by the hit music director Anu Malik while the songs were rendered by Kumar Sanu, Devang Patel, Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sudesh Bhonsle, Alka Yagnik etc.

Shambhunath Rathod ( Anupam Kher ) makes his living by rendering songs in the wedding ceremonies alongwith his son, Roop Singh Rathod ( Shahrukh Khan ) in his village. Shambhunath falls ill and Roop is asked to travel to the city in order to provide medical treatment to his father. Roop does so and admits his father in a hospital. He then starts looking out for a job. He come across a beautiful girl named Reshma Narang ( Ramya Krishnan ), who is the sister of Ajay Narang ( Naseeruddin Shah ). Roop is hired as a singer by Ajay in order to please his sister.

Roop then meets with a doctor named Pooja ( Pooja Bhatt ) and falls in love with her. Reshma is in love with Roop but he is unaware of this fact. When Roop learns about Reshma’s intentions, he immediately leaves the job. But soon he learns that Reshma’s brother Ajay will not let him work for any other person. Roop runs away alongwith Pooja and his father to his village. He get married to Pooja and starts living a happy life. But Ajay arrives there also and tries to kill Pooja.
