The action movie Charas was released on May 7, 2004 under the banner of Mediatrack. The movie was directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and produced by Anjum Rizvi. The lead roles were played by Jimmy Shergill, Uday Chopra, Namrata Shirodkar and Adam Bedi while important roles were played by Hrishita Bhatt and Irrfan Khan. The music of the film was directed by Raju Singh and the songs were sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Soumya Raoh, Shaan, Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu.

The movie Charas is the second film of the director Tigmanshu Dhulia who had earlier directed the movie Haasil and had also assisted the renowned directors like Ketan Mehta who directed the movie Sardar Patel and Shekhar Kapur director of Bandit Queen. He had also written dialogues for films like Dil Se and Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai. Charas also known as Opium is a narcotic drug grown in the Indian Himalayan valleys. The theme of the movie is the trafficking of this narcotic drug.

The movie starts when a boy named Joel Kitchen came to Himachal on a paragliding trip and didn’t return home. They felt he is alive and thus decided to send a cop from Scotland Yard named Dev Anand ( Jimmy Shergill ) to India for investigations. Some people were against this investigation as they were directly linked with that trade. This trade is supported by a minister in England, Union Transport minister in Delhi and the IG police ( Irrfan Khan ). An Indian cop Ashraf ( Uday Chopra ) was appointed to keep a watch on Dev and they ended up becoming friends of each other.
