Bollywood family drama, Dost, directed by Dulal Guha was released on April 12, 1974. The movie starred Dharmendra and Hema Malini in lead roles while Shatrughan Sinha, Kanhaiyalal, Abhi Bhattacharya, Anwar Hussain, Ravindra kapoor, Rehman and Kumari Naaz also played important characters in the film. The melodious hit music of the movie was composed by the well known music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar etc.

Maanav ( Dharmendra ) has been brought up by a priest named Father Francis ( Abhi Bhattacharya ). He returns to Father Francis after completing his studies only to find him dead. Maanav then decides to relocate to Bombay and boards a train. In tarin a guy named Gopichand Sharma ( Shatrughan Sinha ) tries to steal his luggae but Maanav manage to catch him. Maanav decides to befirend Gopi so that he can kill the evil inside him. Maanav wants Gopi to live an honest life.

Gopichand gets highly inspired by Maanav’s gesture and decides to change his lifestyle. He decides to be honest and therefore ends his relationship with his crime boss, Monto Sardar ( Anwar Hussain ). However, Monto chops off his right to punish him for leaving the crime path. Maanav then gets Gopi a job in Hercules Milk Foods. Gopi starts leading an honest life alongwith Maanav. Meanwhile, Maanav falls in love with a girl named Kaajal aka Kau ( Hema Malini ).
