The romantic crime movie Dostana was released on October 17, 1980 under the banner of Dharma Productions. The movie was directed by Raj Khosla and produced by Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. The major roles in the movie were played by Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Zeenat Aman and Prem Chopra while the supporting roles were played by Pran, Helen, Amrish Puri, Iftekhar, Jagdish, Gajanan Jagirdar and Sajjan. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi.

The movie Dostana was a crime movie that managed to hold the attention of the audience for a long time. The story of the movie revolved mostly around two guys Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan ) and Ravi ( Shatrughan Sinha ) who are best friends of each other. They trust each other so much that no one questions other person about anything. While Vijay is a police officer, Ravi is a lawyer. The differences between them comes when Vijay arrests the criminal and Ravi who is employed by Daaga ( Prem Chopra ), hands out bails to them.

Another twist in the story comes when both Vijay and Ravi comes across the same girl Sheetal ( Zeenat Aman ) but at different places and different times. Both the men started to like Sheetal but Vijay was more serious to her. The twist in the story comes when Ravi admits his love with Sheetal to Vijay, this news breaks his heart but he decides to sacrifice his love for his friend Ravi and gives her hand to him. Daaga spoilt the story when he showed Vijay and Sheetal’s photo to Ravi.
