Bollywood family drama, Imtihan, directed by Madan Sinha was released on May 31, 1974. The movie starred Vinod Khanna and Tanuja in lead roles while Ranjeet, Abhi Bhattacharya, Deven Verma, Asit Sen, Ranjeet, C. S. Dubey and Bindu also played important characters in the film. The hit evergreen music of the movie was given by none other than the well knwon veteran music director duo Laxmikant Pyarelal while the songs were crooned by Kishore Kumar, Laxmikant Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar etc.

Madhu ( Tanuja ) is living a welathy lifestyle alongwith his father, H. P. Shastri ( Abhi Bhattacharya ). Shastri works as a principal of Adarsh Mahavidyalay. Madhu is in love with a handsome guyt named Vijay, who is a pilot by profession. They are planning to get married soon. But unfortunately before that could happen, Vijay meets with an accident and dies. Madhu get shocked with this news and looses her control resulting in her fall off the stairs. Madhu gets a permanent damage to her leg and is forced to live the life of a physically handicapped person.

Then a guy named Pramod Sharma ( Vinod Khanna ) enters in her life. Pramod works as a professor in the college. Soon they both falls in love with each other. Thye are planning to get married to each other soon. But once again, Madhu’s dreams get shattered when Pramod is accused by a girl named Rita ( Bindu ) of sexually molesting her. However, Pramod claims that he is innocent. Pramod is thrown out of the college and also Madhu starts hating him.
