Bollywood romantic family drama, Kalpana, directed by R. K. Rakhan and written by Akhtar-Ul-Iman was released in the year 1960. The movie starred Ashok Kumar and Padmini in lead roles while Iftekhar, Ragini, Brahm Bhardwaj, Balram, Sunder, Achala Sachdev and Baby Farida also played significant characters in the film. The hit evergreen music of the movie was directed by the legendary music director O. P. Nayyar while the songs were beautifully sung by Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Sudha Malhotra etc.

Amar ( Ashok Kumar ) is a widower, who is living a middle class lifestyle alongwith his mother and a daughter named Munni ( Baby Farida ). Amar works as the principal in Bharti Kala Kendra. Amar goes on a vacation to kashmir and there he meets with a beautiful women named Kalpana ( Padmini ). He intantly falls in love with her. He befriends her and continues to meet with her. Soon they both falls in love with each other. Amar decides to propose her and goes to her house. But he get shocked to learn that she has left her house.

While returning to his home by train, Amar meets with another woman named Asha ( Ragini ). He hires her as the dance teacher for Bharti Kala Kendra. He brings her home and introdcues her to his mother and daughter. Then one day, Amar finds Kalpana dancing in a theater. Amar goes to meet her and they re kindle their romance. Amar brings her home to introduce with his mother and daughter. It is then the family reveals about the real profession of Kalpana through her brother.
