The social and action movie Maan Maryada was released in the year of 1987. The movie was directed by R P Swamy and produced by Amar Gupta. The actors in the lead roles were Naseruddin Shah, Meera Madhuri, Rameshwari and Deepak Parashar while the supporting roles were played by Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Birbal and Gajanan Jagirdar. The music of the film was directed by Usha Khanna while the songs were sung by Suresh Wadkar, Usha Mangeshkar, Sapna Mukherjee and Mohammad Aziz.

The movie Maan Maryada was a social cum action flick that revolved mostly around the Thakur Ganga Singh ( Naseeruddin Shah ) who lived a wealthy life with his sister Pooja ( Rameshwari ). Ganga loves his sister Pooja very much and literally could do anything for her. Pooja was of marriageable and thus was required to get marry soon. Her marriage was arranged with the son of Surajban Singh. The twist in the story comes when his sister was sexually molested.

Balbir who is the brother of Thakur Vikram Singh ( Bharat Kapoor ) is the man behind the incident. Ganga catches Balbir and beats him up very much. He then takes him to his brother and asks him to get him thrown out of the town. Balbir gets shot one day and Ganga was arrested for this cause. He was tried in court and there were many people who testified against him. He was then sentenced for the life imprisonment. Since it was not fair, he escapes with Bhawani Singh ( Sadashiv Amrapurkar ) from the prison.
