Bollywood romantic drama, Mela, directed by S. U. Sunny and written by Azmi Bazidpuri was released in the year 1948. The movie starred Dilip Kumar and Nargis in lead roles while Jeevan, Noor Jehna, Khalil, Roopkaaml, Rehman and Chandabala also played important characters in the film. The hit melodious evergree music of the movie was composed by none other than legendary music idrector Naushad while the songs were beautifully crooned by Mohammed rafi, Mukesh, Shamshad Begum etc.

The movie starts with Young and handsome guy named Mohan ( Dilip Kumar ), who meets with a beautiful girl named manju ( Nargis ). Mohan falls in love with her at fist sight and Manju too feels attracted towards him. Soon they both realises that they are actually in love with each other. They both decides to get married with each other but there are several problems in their marraige. One of the biggest problem is Mahku ( Jeevan ) who also loves Manju and wants to get her at any cost.

However, Manju and Mohan are determined to get married with each other. When Mahku reveals about this he decides to take revenge from Manju for betraying him. He molests Manju and as a result of it Manju commits suicide. When Mohan reveals about this incident he goes mad and ends up killing Mahku. He is arrested by police then and is sentenced to jail by court. He is left with only the memories of his love.
