The comedy movie Muskurahat was released on October 30, 1992. The movie was directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Pranlal Mehta. The important roles in the movie were played by Jay Mehta, Amrish Puri, Revathi and Anil Dhawan while Jagdeep, Anu Kapoor, Sharat Saxena and Lalita Pawar were also there in the film. Music of the film was directed by Ram Lakshman and the songs were sung by Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Sanu, Sadhana Sargam and Alka Yagnik.

The story of the movie revolves around Gopichand Verma ( Amrish Puri ) who is now the retired judge of the Supreme Court of India. He has shifted to the scenic locations of Ooty and now decides to live there in a big house.

Gopichand has a cook cum servant named Badriprasad Chaurasia ( Jagdeep ). The servant leaves the job when he wins a lottery and thus Gopichand had to hire a woman named Nandini ( Revathi ) for the work. He notices that apart from being mentally imbalanced, there is some mystery with the lady. On further investigating he finds that she is claiming to be his illegitimate daughter. Though he agreed to let her live there but his wife, his son, his sister, his son-in-law, and daughter have different plans for her.
