Yesteryear hit family drama, Naukari, directed by Bimal Roy was released in the year 1954. The movie starred Kishore Kumar and Sheila Ramani in lead roles while Balraj Sahni, Nirupa Roy, Kanhaiyalal, Mehmood, Jagdeep and Jagdish Raj also played important characters in the film. The evergreen melodious music of the movie was directed by the well known veteran music director Salil Chaudhary while the songs were beautifully rendered by Kishore Kumar, Usha Mangeshkar and Geeta Dutt.

Young and handsome, Ratan Kumar Chaudhary ( Kishore Kumar ) is living a poor lifestyle in a village alongwith his mother and a younger sister. His sister is seriously ill and therefore he decides to move to Calcutta in order to provide better treatment to her. He starts looking out for a suitable job there. He gets in touch with some other unemployed guys who provides him shelter in their house. Ratan then come across a beautiful girl named Seema ( Sheila Ramani ), who lives in the building just opposite to the house in which he resides.

After meeting at several occasions, they both falls in love with each other. They decides to get married soon. But the problem is that Seema’s father is not ready to allow her daughter to get married to an unemployed guy. Time changes and Ratan gets a decent job in a firm. But once again problem arises for him when a pickpocket steals his wallet. He somehow manage to join the firm and starst working. But just after few days of his work, he is asked to leave the job for unknown reasons.
