The social drama Omkara has been released on July 28, 2006 and was bannered under Big Screen Entertainer. The movie had been directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and produced by Kumar Mangat. The top roles in the movie were enacted by Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor while there were special roles played by Konkona Sen Sharma, Naseruddin Shah and Bipasha Basu. The music of the film was also directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and the songs were sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan, Suresh Wadkar, Shreya Ghosal, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Rekha Bharadwaj.

The movie Omkara was based on Shakespeare’s play Othello and the title of this movie was decided through an audience poll opened by the director and the choices for it were Omkara, Isssak and O Saathi Re. The movie showcases a man’s descent due to sexual jealousy because of his passionate love for a woman. The movie revolves around Omkara Shukla ( Ajay Devgan ) who is the most dreaded gangster and a friend of a disreputable politician Bhaisahab ( Naseeruddin Shah ). His two other men Langda Tyagi ( Saif Ali Khan ) and Kesu Firangi ( Vivek Oberoi ) are willing to do anything for him.

The group of these gangsters can do anything for Omi and it was clear from the fact that they had even spoilt the marriage of Rajju ( Deepak Dobriyal ) with Dolly ( Kareena Kapoor ) because she had confessed her love for Omi. Bhaisahab asked Dolly’s father to let the lovers be freed. Omi climbed the stairs of success and selected Keshu as his successor. This started a conflict because Omi didn’t select the long time member Langda to be the successor. Langda started plotting Kesu’s descent by creating doubt in the mind of Omi about Dolly’s love affair with Kesu.
