Bollywood musical romantic movie, Painter Babu, directed by Ashok was released in the year 1983. The movie starred Rajiv Goswami and Meenakshi Sheshadri in lead roles while Veerendra Shrama, Aruna Irani, Dheeraj Kumar, Neelima, Madan Puri, Neelam, Om Shivpuri, Birbal, Rakesh Bedi, Pinchoo Kapoor, Kmini Kaushal, Tun Tun and Meena T. also played important characters in the film. The music of the film was given by the music director duo Uttam Singh and Jagdish Khanna while the songs were beautifully crooned by Mahendra Kapoor etc. However, the movie was aproved out to be a big flop at the box office window.

Shyam Srivastav ( Rajiv Goswami ) is the son of a wealthy businessman named Mr. Srivastav ( Om Shivpuri ). But unlike to his father’s wish, Shyam is fascinated towards painting and wants to make it his profession also. Shyam is supposed to marry a beautiful girl named Renu Kailashnath ( Meenakshi Sheshadri ), who is the daughter of Shyam’s father’s business friend. Shyam and Renu meets with each other but are totally unaware of their parent’s friendship. Shyam and Renu falls in love with each other and plans to get married soon. But things starts going wrong with Shyam’s family business and the only option left for them is that Shyam should marry the daughter of a wealthy businessman, Menaka Rai ( Meeena T. ).

But Shyam refuses to this marraige and as a result is asked to leave the house by his father. Shyam leaves his house and starts living a seperate life alongwith Renu somewhere else. But another problem arises when a girl named, Meera ( Neelima ) is found killed, who was is in love with Shyam. Shyam is arrested by police and is sentenced to death by court. But unexpected things happens again and Meera is found alive. Shyam is freed from the prison and he goes to meet Renu only to find that she is now married to Dr. Prakash ( Veerendra Sharma ).
