Raja Ki Aayegi Barat was a social family drama released on October 18, 1996. The movie was directed by Ashok Gaikwad and was produced by Salim Akhtar. The top roles in the movie were played by Rani Mukherjee, Shadab Khan and Saeed Jaffery. Other roles were enacted by Gulshan Grover, Mohnish Behl and Raza Murad. The music was directed by Aadesh Shrivastav and the singers were Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Asha Bhosle.

The story opens with Mala ( Rani Mukherjee ) who is a school teacher. Her friend is betrayed by a man who is marrying another girl. When Mala comes to know about all this, she along with her friend disrupts the wedding and slaps Raja ( Shadab Khan ), groom’s friend. Raja goes mad with anger; he rapes Mala to take revenge. Raja is arrested and his father Rai Bahadur ( Saeed Jaffery ) offers money to Mala’s father Gyani Kartar Singh ( Gulshan Grover ) to take the case back, to which he disagrees.

Raja is found guilty and the court orders him to marry Mala. The family tries their level best to throw Mala out of the house. They fail and thus plan to kill Mala. Rai Bahadur’s elder daughter-in-law comes with preparations to tease Mala and drive her out of the house. One of their plans is reciprocated and Raja himself got bitten by the snake. Mala saves his life and Raja develops a soft corner for her and accepts her. Will the family support Raja’s decision?
