Bollywood musical romantic drama, Saaz, directed by Sai Paranjpe was released in the year 1997. The movie starred Shabana Azmi and Aruna Irani in lead roles while Parikshat Sahni, Paghuvir Yadav, Zakir Hussain and Ayesha Dharker also played significant characters in the film. The music of the movie was directed by four music directors i.e. Yashwant Deo, Bhupen Hazarika, Zakir Hussain and Rajkamal while the songs were rendered by Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shraddha Pandit, Devaki Pandit etc.

The movie starst with two sisters, Mansi Vrundavan ( Aruna Irani ) and Bansi Vrundavan ( Shabana Azmi ). They relocates to Mumbai after the death of their parents. They both are very good singers and wants to make it big in bollywood someday. Mansi manage to meet the renowned music director, Indraneel and starts her career in singing. But she forces Bansi to get married with someone as she wants to fullfill her father’s dream on her own and does not want Bansi to struggle like her. And also she wants Bansi to bear a child to carry on the family name.

Indraneel comes to know about Bansi’s talent and picks her for his new project much to the anger of Mansi. Mansi breaks her commitments with Indraneel after this. Bansi and Mansi becomes rivals of each other. Bansi then meets with a young music director, Himen Desai and falls in love with him. She wants to marry him but being the mother of a young daughter, she fails to do so. What to happen next?
