Shabd was a romantic drama released on February 4, 2005 under the banner of Pritish Nandy Communications. The movie was directed by Leena Bajaj and produced by Rangita Pritish Nandy. The actors in the main roles were Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan and Aishwarya Rai while the roles of Sadia Siddiqui and Kamini Khanna were also significant. Music of the film was directed by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani while the songs were sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Kumar Sanu, Shreya Ghosal, Sonu Nigam and Sukhwinder Singh.
Shaukat Vashisht ( Sanjay Dutt ) is a writer by profession and also loved his writing more than any thing else. He wanted to gain popularity but was shocked after the failure of his second novel and would do anything to gain his popularity back. He is loved by his wife Antara Vashisht ( Aishwarya Rai ) who is a professor of fashion technology. It seemed that she put her everything at the stake of love. Yash ( Zayed Khan ) is also in love with Antara and works as a professor of photography in the same institute where she worked. What he knew was that he loved her a lot.
Writers have been compared to fighters and it is believed that they can raise awareness with the power of their writing skills. Shabd is the story of Shaukat who is a gifted writer but was in some state of shock after the failure of his second novel. He has a beautiful and loving wife Antara. To gain back his popularity he decides to write his real life story and the real life incidents in his next novel which would interests the public more. Yash also loved Antara but her husband asked her to pretend to love him for the sake of his story.
