Bollywood yesteryear classic, Sujata, directed by Bimal Roy and written by Subodh Ghosh was released on April 16, 1979. The movie starred Sunil Dutt and Nutan Behl in lead roles while Lalita Pawar, Shashikala, Sulochana Latkar, Asit Sen, Sabitri devi, Tarun Bose and Brahm Bhardwaj also played importanat roles in the film. The music of the movie was directed by the veteran famous music director Sacgin dev Burman while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Talat Mehmood, Geeta dutt etc.

Orphan Sujata ( Nutan Behl ) is adopted by Upendranath Chaudhary ( Tarun Bose ) and he brings her in Chaudhary family. The family includes Upendra’s wife, Charu ( Sulochana Latkar ) and a daughter named Rama ( Shashikala ). They whole family treats her like the part of them. Sujata also starts leading a comfortable life alongwith the family. Years later, Sujata and Rama both are of marriageable age now. Young and handsome, Adir ( Sunil Dutt ) comes to see Rama for marriage purpose.

But after meeting with Sujata, he falls in love with her. He decides to get married with Sujata only much to the anger of Rama. Rama has already decided that she will marry with Adhir only. Adhir’s aunts forces him to marry Rama. On the otherhand, Chaudhary family also ask Sujata to leave the house immediately. What will happen to the love of Adhir and Sujata?
