The drama Tehzeeb was released on December 5, 2003 under the banners of The Culture Company and 7 Studio Picture. The movie was directed by Khalid Mohamed and produced by Paresh Talpade. The lead roles were played by Shabana Azmi, Arjun Rampal, Urmila Matondkar and Dia Mirza while the supporting roles were played by Rishi Kapoor and Namrata Shirodkar. Music of the film was directed by A R Rahman and the songs were sung by Shaan, Sujata Bhattacharya, Asha Bhosle and Sukhwinder Singh.

The theme of the move Tehzeeb is women oriented and is just like the earlier movies Mammo, Fiza and Zubeidaa. The director Khalid Mohammed came into this film industry three years back with his movie Fiza and now he is trying his skills with the movie Tehzeeb. The title of the movie Tehzeeb goes after the name of the character Tehzeeb ( Urmila Matondkar ) who has been living up with some confusion about her mother Ruksana ( Shabana Azmi ). Ruksana is a renowned playback singer who has been gossiped many times in the newspaper.

Tehzeeb suspects her mother to be a woman who killed her father ( Rishi Kapoor ). Tehzeeb marries to a novel writer ( Arjun Rampal ) and this decision of her was a cause of resentment to her mother. Tehzeeb lives with her mentally challenged younger sister Nazneen ( Diya Mirza ). The strange thing about this is that both of them have not seen their mother for over 5 years now. Ruksana also kept updated with the changing trends in the music playback. One day, Ruksana decides to pay a visit to her daughter’s house and soon the problems started rising between the husband wife.
