A few years back, you might have to think hard to know who we were talking about, if the name Ganesh Hegde was mentioned. But all that changed when the sexy choreographer’s music album ‘G‘ was released and his song ‘main deewana‘ became a nationwide rage. The dance director was an instant hit with persons of all age groups and his moves, as if he were made of rubber, impressed anayone and everyone. But the choreographer had been rejecting many movies, some of them big projects.

Many people don‘t know that Ganesh was the choreographer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Khamoshi: The Musical. But after this, Ganesh declined both Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, which though were aptly taken care of by another ace of choreography: Saroj Khan. And now the singer-cum-choreographer has revealed in an interview to a leading newspaper, that when Saawariya was being made, Sanjay called him up and told him that if this time he didn’t choreograph a song in Saawariya, he would kidnap him!

Well, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movies have been resplendent with the best music scores, and superb choreography. Remember Aishwarya  Rai in ‘nimbooda‘ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, where Saroj Khan made her practice so hard that her knees and anklets went blue? (Aishwarya reportedly refused a supporting role opposite Salman Khan in the movie). Or Madhuri Dixit trying her first moves on Shah Rukh Khan in ‘kaahe chhedd‘ from Devdas, where she had to dance wearing a gold laden 30-kg apparel, and her ‘mudras’ were made perfect by classical dance supremo Pandit Birju Maharaj? Well, with Saawariya’s somewhat ‘modern’ touch to the story, we can surely expect Ranbir, Sonam, Rani and Salman to create magic on screen.

Ganesh incidently, had done a stage show with singing legend Asha Bhonsle, where he not only sang a song but also performed on stage. This led to an impressed Ashaji telling him that he should take up singing seriously. And as we know now, Ganesh created one of the most stunning music videos in the history of Indi-pop. Here’s wishing him a lot more success and a great singing career ahead!
